- Reviewed in the United States on June 19, 2013I found the book "Creating Layers in Mixed Media Art" very clearly defined and illustrated, especially to those just starting out. Showing how blending colours and building layers on the canvas gave a wonderful outcome and brought much confidence to me. The variety of techniques shown in the book broadened my world of creating something wonderful out of nothing, and this is how creativity works. Among some of the topics Michelle Brown (the author) touched on were working with mediums, stamping with rubber stamps, credit card lines, stencilling, embellishments , working with Ephemera and dry-brush gesso applications.
I recommend this book to those at all levels of Mixed Media. I enjoyed Creating Layers Tutorial very much and I hope to view many more of Michelle's in the future.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 30, 2014I am always hesitant to criticize a book and/or author, as I know how hard it is to BE an author. Surely no one sets out to write a bad book, or a poor quality book. This book was quite well-reviewed in several magazines I read. I've got just about every how-to, inspiration and technique book out there, but what can I say, a new one is always tempting. This was, as they say in publishing, an article and not a book. My fault - Amazon specifies the number of pages (I believe 44?). It also appeared to be a "just-in-time" self-published book (which I believe is a service Amazon offers). Give-away was a date on the final page which was....the date I placed my order! It appeared to be printed on basic home copier paper. The lay-oit, considering it is a book of art techniques, was just plain weird -- as if the text was written in Word columns with the pictures of techniques inserted along the right side. I'm sure Ms. Brown had good intentions and I don't criticize any book or author lightly. I returned it to Amazon with perhaps the best summary and reason for my return -- had I picked this book up from a shelf in a physical bookstore and looked at it, I would NOT have purchased it.

- Reviewed in the United States on May 4, 2013Everybody jokes about checking reviews before buying, specially when the product has only 1.... that can be tricky....Well, I was looking forward to get this book since I found some videos online posted by its creator mrs MICHELL...Im not an artist, just a not so good crafter and stay at home mom "learning" from videos on youtube and craft's blogs... well as I said before, I check the 4 stars review on amazon posted by "MEESHELL" (don't get confused the writer of the 38 pages book is "MICHELL" not "MEESHELL") and I bought it....WHAT A DISSAPOINTMMENT!!!!!....if you haven't learn on youtube or craft blogs how to make marks with gesso and a credit card, stamp with caps or bubble wrap, or attach buttons and jigsaw pieces to your project, then THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU!!!...
