Mixed Media Artist ~ Eileen Murray

Our Mixed Media Art community is a diverse bunch; from all around the world, with different interests, reasons why we create and a wide range of skills. Over the next few weeks we will be featuring a range of mixed media artists to tell their stories and share their artwork.

Eileen Murray is our featured artist this week.

Born in Peterborough Ontario, Canada, Eileen now lives in British Columbia.  Her imagination has always been a guiding force in her life which has led her to live pretty well outside the box.. a life of self discovery and exploration.  She have two grown children and two beautiful granddaughters. Eileen completed her BA in art and psychology, as well as her MA in Liberal Arts.

Since Eileen was a child, she had a deep connection to the Invisible world and this eventually took her in working with dreams, shamanic work, various forms of body work and working with the Akashic Records.  All of these realms have influenced her art.

“Through a series of night dreams I was led to Cuba where I ended up teaching Therapeutic Touch  to the medical community,” Eileen tells us.  “Lots could be shared about that time and other travels.”

“The reason I love mixed media is that anything and everything can be embodied with this medium.  Rich textures with fabric, paint, anything and everything that speaks to the soul can be incorporated,” says Eileen. And I think we all share Eileen’s enthusiasm.

The 4 Ladies

Mixed Media Artist Eileen Murray

This started as a painting on watercolor paper.  I then decided to cut the images and make it into mix media.  I used molding paste on the canvas, then  cut the images and glued them.  Using various acrylic colors I layered with paint, black pen marker and glitter paint.  I incorporated pieces of fabric and butterfly buttons…to give it the magical feel.

The Spirit Boat

I covered the canvas with layers of gesso.  After the gesso dried I applied liquid acrylics and heavy body acrylic.  Pieces of fiber paper were  applied as the final touch.

The Shoes

Mixed Media Artist Eileen Murray

I had so much fun creating this piece. This was done on a cradle board.  I designed and cut the shoes from canvas paper.  Then I stitched creating a boarder and applied  acrylic paint, fabric, paper, feathers and buttons. I glued the shoes on the board and then applied more paint on the board.

A huge “thank-you” to Eileen for sharing her artwork and a little about herself with us.
